Thanks Dave I'll check it out. Spotted about 6 chaga today. Some days I could fill the small pack I'm lugging. Had a great day in the woods today. Had snow and tracked a large buck into the thick spruce on top of a mountain. Came within 50 feet of him before he smelled me and crashed off. Just caught a glimps of him below in an opening. Had an eagle circle over me about 10 times. Saw a marten chaising a red squirrel, and a pileated woodpecker landed on a dead tree real close to me.

Sorry to hear that about your order from ebay. I did order from ebay only once and got very good and dry chaga. Now I order from Christopher @ michiganmushrooms.net/index.htm He gives me great deals on chaga and it is always dry before shipping. You might want to try him out or email him and talk to him. Just tell him that Dan recommended him for his great chaga...

maineac, according to your pictures I can say that such weird forms of chaga never happens with russian siberian chaga...or if it does, it is considered bad chaga...The shape of normal siberian chaga is different...Siberian chaga is not pointed at the top and is not twisting..at chagatrade.ru you can see the real chaga pics..So maybe the property of siberian chaga is also different and so the healthy properties too..I am russian, and I heard local people say no chaga should be picked from the lower part of the birch tree..nobody knows why, but nobody picks it if it grows lower than three meters from the ground...THis is folk medicine after all...

Checked out the picture of a chaga on chagatrade.ru and I'd say most of the chaga here is similar. The pictures I've shown were the stranger or larger looking ones that I'd found. That last one, the pointy one was no doubt the weirdest

My eldest brother Dan is battling Stage 4 cancer of the esophagus. We ordered Chaga from Oriveda. Due to a paypal error, the package was sent to the wrong address. Oriveda promptly shipped a new package and wished my brother all the best. They are phenomenal, with ethics and humanity intact. I recommend Oriveda( www.oriveda.com/JAM/jrox.php?id=108_1) as the best Chaga source on the web!!

Canadian Chaga is an excellent source as well. For information and purchasing Chaga closer to home visit www.fiddleheadheaven.com. Chaga grows on birch trees, and a birch tree is a birch tree no matter where it grows.

The Chaga mama is fresh harvested chaga from the white mountains of new Hampshire they have extremly affordable chaga you can check them out on ebay or www.chagamma.com But it's not Siberian!!! Thanks anyway, but I'll pass. According to an excellent article I found online the powerful components that give chaga its medicinal qualities are developing in response to the extreme weather conditions (-i.p. large temperature swings of -45ºC to 30 ºC ) and the struggle with the birch on which it's parasitic. NH is way to moderate, resulting in low potency chaga. That is also the reason no high potency chaga products (I mean extracts with listed and verifiable percentages of bio actives) have so far been produced with NH-chaga or Vermont-chaga. Apart from that, extracts are the way to go!!!

My question is if you are using the alcohol extraction method , is there any way you can remove or neutralize the alcohol before consumption without affecting the beneficial substances. Necessary for us non alcholics.

My question is if you are using the alcohol extraction method , is there any way you can remove or neutralize the alcohol before consumption without affecting the beneficial substances. Necessary for us non alcholics. The 70 - 90% ethanol, a very concentrated form of alcohol will evaporate by itself and there will be no alcohol left.

After the ethanol has evaporated, do you then take the dried residue and mix it with your water extracted liquid.
